Host at Work

Feasting at Your Organisation

Celebrate the rich multicultural fabric of our community, it’s diversity and the importance of inclusion by hosting a Feast for Freedom in your workplace, school or community group.

Feast for Freedom is a shared food experience in aid of people seeking asylum.

Cook and share dishes using recipes gifted to you by refugees (or your own!) to raise funds for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.

Why Feast?

We know that good food feeds the heart and soul and sharing a meal together reminds us that we are one family, one community and one people. So being a part of Feast for Freedom is not only a delicious discovery of different cultures and cuisines but a wonderful celebration of what unites us all.

Last year, 1,500 people around Australia took part in Feast for Freedom and this year, we’re inviting workplaces, schools and community groups to join the hundreds of household hosts across Australia.

As an organisational host this year you'll be taking your guests on a culinary journey, discovering new foods, cultures and traditions while raising funds to support and empower people seeking asylum. In turn, your guests can RSVP and make a donation toward your fundraising goal on your Feast for Freedom fundraising page (which you will receive when you register).

Not sure about cooking the recipes for so many colleagues at work? That’s not a worry - turn your Feast into a multicultural celebration and invite guests to bring along a plate of their own, too!

The Host Feast Kit

Everyone that registers to host a Feast will receive a free Feast Kit to ensure their Feast is a success.

Inside the kit, you will find:

  • The Feast for Freedom 2021 recipe book with Aheda and Niro’s recipes (and more)
  • A handy Feast for Freedom magnetic shopping list to track your Feast purchases
  • A sturdy Feast for Freedom reusable shopping bag for your groceries
  • A Feast for Freedom branded bamboo spoon to cook and serve your dishes with
  • A table centrepiece with a special message for your guests about the impact of your support
  • Conversation starter cards to keep the dialogue flowing and reflect on the challenges of someone seeking asylum

Some of these special gifts also make great door prizes and raffle items to help you reach your fundraising goal.

How can we Help?

For Workplaces

For workplaces, we’re also pleased to offer a speaker for your Feast - to encourage conversations for change, and share the impact of your workmates fundraising efforts.

For Schools and Community Groups

For schools and community groups, we’re pleased to be able to offer you an invitation to post-Feast functions at the ASRC where your community can experience what we fondly called “The Home of Hope”.

*Speaker and tour timeframes are dependent on availability.

COVIDSafe Planning

Unfortunately, we can't forget the COVID elephant in the room.

Please ensure you are hosting your Feast within your local authority's guidelines, adhering to the social gathering limits within your household, office or space where you plan to host your Feast.

Below are some tips to help ensure your event is COVIDSafe and help you navigate changing restrictions.

  • Just before your Feast is due to take place, check the current COVID restrictions that apply to your area.
  • Have hand sanitiser available and/or somewhere for your guests to regularly wash their hands.
  • Host an 'iso' friendly Feast over Zoom and everyone can cook the recipes together online. You can even do this with interstate or international friends!
  • Alternatively you could deliver the dishes you've cooked to your guests as takeaway and then Feast together virtually on Zoom.
