Sunday 21st AprLet’s celebrate what unites us!
Monday 15th AprBELLAGIO CAFE - MONDAY 22nd APRIL
It’s that time of year again - let’s celebrate what unites us with a small dinner to raise money for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.
I know it’s been a big year for everyone, with many tragic events unfolding in our communities and the world, and the rising cost of living touching us all. If even those of us with immense privilege are struggling, the most vulnerable people in our communities including refugees and those seeking asylum are facing a crisis and relying more than ever on the support of organisations like the ASRC.
Please donate on the link above and reach out to me if you’d like to attend. Our 2022 Feast raised over $1600 and Alexa at Bellagio Cafe has kindly donated her space again.
I will be providing as many dishes as I can assemble and refrigerate in my tiny kitchen, but if you are able to bring a dish to add to the table then this will be greatly appreciated. I have some ideas for contributions, and Persian-inspired recipes gifted by refugees that are taken from their own cultural traditions.
If you are unsure of how much to donate then a good guideline is how much you would pay for your groceries for dinner, or a meal out. If you’d prefer to donate your time, then a home prepared dish or some help with the set up is a beautiful and generous contribution too. No amount is too little to make a difference.
And if you can’t make it, then you will be missed but you can still support the ASRC with a donation. Just $25 can provide warm community meals in a welcoming environment, $62 can provide crisis accommodation for someone with nowhere else to go, $105 can provide a family with culturally familiar food and essential groceries and $176 can fund healthcare and vital medications for those without access to Medicare.
The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre in an incredible organisation that provides support and resources that empower people to rebuild their lives here in Australia.
In the last financial year, ASRC:
Assisted 459 families with basic needs like utility bills, household essentials, baby items, phone credit and educational supplies
Provided 5,431 pro bono health appointments
Assisted 593 individuals and families with legal support
Spent $714k on groceries for the community
Created 48,000 paid work hours for clients through social initiatives
Directly employed 101 people with lived experience seeking asylum in ASRC Cleaning and ASRC Catering
Provided over 66,000 nights of accommodation to people at risk of imminent homelessness
