How to Feast

Your Feast can be what you want it to be, go large or go small. You can invite friends, family and/or colleagues. You can host at home, have a picnic in the park, make it a workplace social or go virtual!

4. Hold your Feast for Freedom.

Hold your Feast, raise funds for people seeking asylum, and celebrate what unites us.

Top Tips For Planning A Feast

When to Feast: You can host your feast anytime from when you register through to April 30th. Simply pick a time & date that works for you.

How many guests: Your feast can be as big or as small as you like. Spread the word on social media, send personal invites or create a WhatsApp chat group.

What's on the menu: You could pick any of the NEW recipes on offer from this year’s Feast for Freedom Recipe Book. We also encourage you to bring to the table your own favourite dishes from your culture or heritage.

Share the load and the cost: Ask your guests to bring a plate and something to drink. You’ll be surprised how many will offer to contribute a dish as well as making a donation. You could also try sourcing free or discounted items from local suppliers.

Host Tips

Top tip: Keep it simple when you have a large feast! We set a recommended donation amount to set the expectations and asked everyone to BYO cutlery, plates and drinks.

Cindy

Do a test run of some of the recipes before the big day. That way you're comfortable with what you’re cooking, when it’s unfamiliar territory, and can plan the right quantities for your number of guests.

Tom

Most of the funds we raised came from suggesting an amount, much like what you’d pay at a restaurant, to attend our Feast.

Amanda

Use ASRC Catering for your event! The food went down particularly well.

Mia

We made it a potluck dinner, with everyone bringing a dish from their own heritage, which made the planning and cooking a little easier for us all! It was great to hear the stories behind each dish too.
